Borrowing Privileges

Borrowing Privileges

A valid student or faculty ID or a community user library card must be presented to checkout library materials.

Community Users must notify the Library of any address and telephone number changes. Failure to receive the notice does not absolve the patron from fees for lost items. The Library is not responsible for communications that do not reach the addressee. The library uses campus email for notices. Students, faculty and staff are responsible for checking their campus email for important campus information. Local borrowers receive notices via regular mail.

Users are responsible for all materials charged out on their card. Library cards and borrowed materials should never be loaned to others.

It is the user's responsibility to keep track of library materials checked out to them. A due date is provided for all checked-out materials. Courtesy notices advising users to renew or return materials are sent to campus emails.

Materials must be returned to the Library in the same physical condition as when they were checked out. Post-it notes, highlighting, and marking in materials are prohibited and damages will be charged to the borrower. Theft, mutilation of or detaining any Library materials is prohibited.

Misuse or abuse of Library privileges is considered a serious offense. Various penalties will be applied for infringement of Library regulations. Check-outs are prohibited until overdue materials are returned and/or fines are paid. Library delinquencies will prohibit students from registering for succeeding semesters or obtaining a copy of their DACC transcript of classes.

Under Illinois state law, non-return of a library item valued above $50 is considered theft after 30 days, a misdemeanor; if the item is valued above $300, this is considered a class 3 felony. See https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/fulltext.asp?DocName=072000050K16-3  The library reserves the right to prosecute such theft at its own discretion.
