Tag Items

Use tags to guide students' use of your list. Tags tell students the status of specific resources so that they can prioritize their reading and/or viewing and plan their time.

Click Add Tag.

How to add a tag

Select the appropriate tag:

  • Essential -- use this tag for required reading and viewing. Essential tags also trigger purchase requests if the library does not own an electronic version of an item. Essential tags are also the basis for Digitization Requests.
  • Further reading -- use this tag to indicate resources that you recommend students read or view to deepen their understanding
  • Optional choice -- use this tag to indicate items that readers' may choose from to complete an assignment
  • Extra Credit -- use this tag when you want to provide students with an extra credit assignment linked to a reading or viewing title outside of your Essential choices

Add Notes

Add Public Notes to items to indicate page ranges for list assignments or provide tips about what readers should look for while reading or viewing. Click on the item to open it and then write the public note (or a private note -- viewable only by you) and click Save.

Click on an item and fill out the public note.

A public note will appear like this in the list.

Public note as it appears in an item.

You can also access Public Notes by choosing to Add and Edit an item rather than simply Adding it. The citation will appear in the right pane of your Reading List, where you can simply fill out the Public Note field and Save your item.

Access the citation by Add and Edit

After you've finished tagging and adding notes to the items on your list, you're ready to Publish Your List.
