Add Items to a Reading List

Adding items to a list is very easy. You can add items in 4 different ways and move them between sections.

Items from the library

If you know of an item in the library's collection that you want to use, click on Library Search and search for it by title or author.

Searching the Library's collection

You can also search for keywords, but if you want to explore the library's collection to see what's available, we recommend using Primo 1Search instead. With Primo 1Search you can take advantage of the search facets to refine your search results to find items more precisely. When you've found something you want to use, find it through your Reading List by title.

The Reading List search can be a good way to discover online videos in the library's collection on specific topics. Simply limit your results to video or other material type to see what you're interested in. Use the Library Catalog (Search in Library Catalog) to see e- and print books the library has on a topic.

Click on an item in the results list and it will open a menu. Choose the appropriate Section. Click ADD or ADD & EDIT.

If the Library owns a copy of a book in print, you can request to have a portion of the item (a single chapter or less than 10% of the item, with some exceptions) converted to an electronic file by means of a Digitization Request.

Upload a File

If you have something in a file that you want to add to your list, start by selecting Upload a File. Then drag or browse for the file using the loading zone.

Select the Upload option          then        Upload zone

The Library does check whether uploaded files meet college copyright requirements. Uploading files is most suitable for materials you have created yourself or have direct permission from an author (such as a former student) to use. When getting permission from others to use their work, make sure to keep a written copy of their permission in your files.

Items from Your Collection

Your Collection consists of items you gather from the internet. Add items to your Collection using the CITE IT! tool. If you find something you might want to include in one of your courses while browsing online, simply click the CITE IT! link on your bookmarks bar. (You can also use CITE IT! to add items directly to a specific list and section.)

To add the CITE IT! tool to your Bookmarks bar, click on your user link from your reading list in Blackboard. Click on Cite It! to open the instructions. From the instruction menu, drag it the button to your bookmarks bar on your favorite browser.

If you want the Library to purchase a book or DVD, use CITE IT! to capture the book information from Amazon and add it to your list. You can also use CITE IT! to link to YouTube videos, web sites, library databases, Noodletools, or social media posts. The only thing to watch out for is articles that may go behind a paywall after you capture them, such as online articles on news or magazine sites.

Blank Form

If you need the library's help tracking down a source, you can add an item through the blank form. Just put all the information you have about a resource into the form and the library will attempt to identify the item and make it available.

Move and Delete Items

If you need to move an item to another section, move your mouse to the far right side of the item until the blue bar appears. Use the blue bar to move the item wherever you need it.

Delete an item using the 3 dot menu on the item. Click on the menu and select Delete Item.

After you add items, it's time to Tag Items and Add Notes.
